3 A Day Keeps The Doctor Away
MendMaker Exercise: Session written and explained by your coach Claire Anstey
Break Your Goal Down Into Bite-Size Chunks
The doctors in the white coats are the ones I'm talking about. because they will come for you one day if you carry on winding yourself up about what you haven't done, what you should have done, and what you want to do.
Dreaming of your big goal is great but when the time comes to think about what to do first your brain explodes. Having a goal should not be there to cause you even more stress, it should be something that you enjoy getting to.
The key to getting from A to Z is to break your goal down into bite-size chunks and then do something each day to get you closer and that's what this exercise is all about.
But be warned that goal orientated obsessions will not bring you long term fulfillment. Self acceptance and contentment can only come from within. I don't want anyone to be chasing rainbows and still feeling shit when they have a Leprechaun in one hand and a pot of gold in the other.
Your 'project me' goal management that you are shown in the below steps is still good shit though as it will enable you to raise your confidence, gain back some of your self esteem and get things moving in the right direction.
To make sure that hitting your targets doesn't become a crazed race you just have to win, always remember in your heart that your journey has to be part of your dream.
As you move closer to your goal make sure that along your way you constantly listen to your gut feelings and enjoy each moment, even when there is chaos. If at any moment your instinct tells you to change lanes or get off the boat completely, do yourself a favour, be brave, trust it and do it.
TASK:
The following exercise gives you step-by-step guidance on how to work towards your big goals and dreams. It is simple and enables you to project manage yourself on a daily basis.
1: What is your goal? Write it down
2: Be specific - I want to be rich is too vague, I want £5000 in the bank by August 1 5th is the type of thing you need
3: Research your options and the steps you need to take. For the goal in the example you would need to research the best savings account, set up a savings account, set up automatic payment, get an extra part time job etc.
If you are truly indulging in your goal management then yes ok maybe you will need to spend some extra time on this as you don't want to rush and that's fine. It's exactly what this is all about. If you divide this into 3 sections and a section each day over the next few days you will be in full swing in no time.
4: Break the steps down into bite size chunks; work backwards if it makes it easier. You will probably find that with each step you will have a "to do" list of things you need to investigate, ask or learn.
5: Set a deadline - you need something to work towards otherwise you get mañana syndrome but don't kill yourself trying to do it. It is important that you enjoy the ride.
6: Now this is the bit that will get you your breakthrough! Can you commit to ticking 3 things a day off this list? Do you want to tick 3 things per day off this list? If not why and how does that make sense? Write down your answer to this too.
If you can commit to your 'daily 3' you will achieve so much so quickly. In fact you would be 21 steps closer a week, and 90 steps closer a month.
See how it all seems to start to take shape. And remember the most important thing is that you enjoy it.
If you don't enjoy getting these things done then the fact is you are probably just doing them because you feel you should not because you want to. Live your life from your gut.
From this moment, it is now up to you to create a list everyday. physically write it down and feel great when you have ticked something off.
If you managed your 3 things and want to do more go for it, you will only get to your dream quicker
Are you busy busy busy, so busy and full of excuses and stress? Then reading this can be one of your daily 3, only 2 more to go. See how attainable it can be when you relax and chill out about it.
7: Don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the journey and the goal will take care of itself.
